New bill would ban anyone under 18 from accessing social networking sites.

from MTV News

The article discusses a new bill being tabled in the US that seeks to limit access to onlone social networks by minors.  It certainly seems like a knee-jerk response to a hyperbolic perception of the risks of abuse in online activity.

The act would also ban access to chat rooms, block a variety of online forums and require the Federal Trade Commission to create a special Web site for parents and teachers warning of the potential dangers of social networking sites.
